About StaldVent

From research project to industry standard

StaldVent began as one researcher’s vision: making documented knowledge about livestock climate available to the whole industry. More than three decades and five program generations later, that is still the purpose.

The story

Six milestones in 40 years

  • The 1980s · The idea

    At the Danish Building Research Institute, Svend Morsing starts turning knowledge about animal heat production and tested ventilation components into a PC program – so manufacturers, consultants, teachers and researchers can calculate on the same documented basis. In 1986 the idea is presented to the Danish ventilation manufacturers at the AgroMek fair, and a working group of manufacturers helps shape the program.

  • 1990 · First release

    StaldVent 2.1 ships with component selection and system performance calculation. The 1990s add a heating design module, climate analysis and an air-jet module.

  • 2000 · Windows and energy

    StaldVent 4.0 moves the program to Windows and adds energy simulation, developed in projects supported by the Danish Energy Agency.

  • 2004-2007 · Emissions

    Research projects on ammonia and odour (including ROSES) create the emission module in StaldVent 5.0 – and the calculation basis for the official Danish guidelines on partial air cleaning (Grøn Viden no. 47).

  • 2012 · DXT takes over

    Danish Exergy Technology A/S, development partner since 1998, takes over StaldVent from the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences and today handles development, sales and support.

  • Today · Still evolving

    The program keeps evolving with new modules – most recently wind impact calculation and tube ventilation – and is used in more than 10 countries.

The founders

Svend Morsing and Jan S. Strøm (Danish Building Research Institute, later the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Research Centre Bygholm) created the program and published its methods in the international literature.

StaldVent is run by DXT – Danish Exergy Technology A/S in Skørping, Denmark, led by Esben Bach-Sørensen, M.Sc. Engineering.
