Energy

Know the barn’s energy consumption before you build

Ventilation electricity and climate heating are major operating costs. StaldVent simulates consumption hour by hour across the year – so investments can be compared on numbers, not gut feeling.

Hour-by-hour simulation

A full year of operation – calculated in minutes

The simulation combines animal heat production, building heat loss, system components and local weather data (hourly values for a reference year) with your set-points for temperature, humidity and CO2. The result: electricity and heat consumption, indoor climate and duty cycles – and duration curves that make scenarios directly comparable.

Scenarios

What can be compared?

Control strategies

On/off, damper, staged or variable-speed control – and outdoor temperature compensation. Control strategy moves the electricity bill more than most expect.

Heat recovery and heat sources

Does recovery pay back in this specific building? What does direct firing or another heat source change?

Air cleaning power use

Air cleaners cost pressure loss and thus electricity. StaldVent includes the extra cost, so abatement technology is chosen on total economics.

Climate zones

The same barn in Denmark, Poland or Portugal performs very differently – simulate at the customer’s location, not on an average.

Perspective

Differences you can measure on the bottom line

In a published StaldVent study, ventilation electricity alone in a grower-finisher pig house ranged from about 6.6 to 8.7 kWh per pig produced depending on climate region and temperature set-point – and heating varied even more. That is the kind of difference the simulation quantifies before you invest.
